Earl Had to Die: The 20 Best Country Songs About Killing Your Man
Murder ballads have always played a significant role in classic country music. While they may not be as common today, there are still many great songs about men killing their female partners. Although less frequent, there are also songs about women who commit murder in country music, and we have a list of them to showcase.
There were certain criteria that eliminated some popular choices for this list. We decided to include only one song per artist, so artists like Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert, who have multiple songs about revenge in their discography, were limited to just one slot. While songs like "Before He Cheats," "Church Bells," "White Liar," and "Kerosene" are all excellent revenge songs, other songs that were even more popular ended up taking their place on the final list.
The theme was focused on murders with male victims. This meant that songs like Ashley McBryde's "Martha Divine" did not qualify, even though it is considered a great modern murder song in the genre. Other notable mentions include Willie Nelson's "Red Headed Stranger" and The SteelDrivers' "If It Hadn't Been for Love," but they also did not make the list due to the criteria.
Here is a collection of the most epic and villainous songs in country music that revolve around killing a man. Take a look at our selection of the best revenge songs and hidden gems that focus on the theme of murder, particularly targeting the man in your life or persuading someone else to do it. Feel free to share in the comments if we overlooked your favorite song about getting rid of your man.
