6 Haunting Final Performances: Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary + More

  • by

Here are six memorable last concerts by Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary, and others. George Jones was aware that his performance would be his last, while Daryle Singletary was not, which added an eerie quality to the song he performed to close out the night.

Following Merle Haggard's passing, a story circulated about Toby Keith assisting him in exiting the stage gracefully for his final show. However, this story turned out to be false, as Keith was not actually present at the Hag's last performance. The individual who falsely claimed to have been there also did not attend the show.

In fact, actor W. Earl Brown wasn't present at the event where Keith actually assisted Haggard. He only found out about it afterwards.

Taste of Country found a review of what may have been Haggard's last concert and found a touching moment that deserves just as much focus as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of six memories from his final concert that are shared in the video above and in pictures below.

The video also features John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell performance.

We really enjoy the Singletary performance. If you know Johnny Paycheck's song "Old Violin," you'll understand what he did with it. If you're not familiar with the song, keep watching to find out.
