6 Haunting Final Concerts: Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary, and More Remembered

  • by

Here are six memorable last performances by artists like Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Daryle Singletary. George Jones was aware that his concert was his last, while Daryle Singletary was not, adding an eerie feeling to the song he performed to close the show.

Following the passing of Merle Haggard, a story circulated claiming that Toby Keith assisted him in exiting the stage with dignity during his final performance. However, this story turned out to be false as Keith was not present at Haggard's last show, nor was the individual who spread the misinformation.

In reality, actor W. Earl Brown was not present at the event where Keith assisted Haggard. He only learned about it afterwards.

Taste of Country found a review of what turned out to be Haggard's last concert and uncovered a touching moment that deserves just as much recognition as the story about Toby Keith. This is one of six memories from Haggard's final concert that are shared in the video above and in the pictures below.

The video includes John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell.

We really enjoy the Singletary performance. If you know the song "Old Violin" by Johnny Paycheck, you'll recognize where he took inspiration from. If you're not familiar with the song, continue watching to see what we mean.
