Reba McEntire competed in a chili cookoff and unfortunately came in last place. The competition was judged by Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple in the country music scene, Reba and Rex do not go easy on each other in cooking contests.
McEntire recently took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff, where Linn served as one of the judges. Despite their personal connection, McEntire did not receive any special treatment during the judging.
McEntire actually ended up in last place during the competition. As a result, she received a humorous trophy as a prize: a chili pepper being flushed down a toilet.
McEntire showed her good sportsmanship by posting a video on social media of her unsuccessful cooking competition experience. The video included a moment where she gracefully accepted coming in last place.
The video below captures the entire event and also includes some interesting moments, such as country singer Terri Clark coming in second place.
In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire discussed her unsuccessful chili cookoff experience and acknowledged that she has a clear understanding of what went awry.
"I forgot to add the spices for some reason," she confessed. "I added chili powder and hatch green chilis, thinking it would be enough to make the dish flavorful. It was a recipe from Texas and I was really looking forward to trying it out."
Even though Linn's girlfriend status didn't improve her ranking, McEntire believes that it may have softened the blow when the judges announced the results.
"Rex, who was one of the judges, approached me and quietly told me the news. He expressed his apologies and then revealed that I was not the winner of the competition."
"Then he gave me the trophy, which turned out to be a chili pepper in the toilet. So I ended up throwing mine away," McEntire explained further.
Setting jokes aside, McEntire discussed her connection with Linn and why it is successful. They have been acquainted for many years, meeting in 1991 during the filming of The Gambler Returns. However, their romantic relationship did not begin until they reconnected in 2020. Prior to that, McEntire was married to Narvel Blackstock, her husband of many years, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, Reba McEntire wondered why they didn't start their relationship sooner. Rex mentioned that one reason could be because she was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as fun and energetic, while she has become more mellow. She believes they have met at the perfect time in their lives.
After that, McEntire will be traveling to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new comedy series that will reunite her with some of the crew from her popular show, Reba.
