Country Carnage: The Top 20 Country Songs About Killing Your Man

  • by

Songs about murder have always been a significant part of traditional country music. Although they are not as common as they once were, there are still many great songs about men killing their romantic partners. While songs about women committing murder are less frequent, there are still plenty of them in the country music genre.

We excluded some popular contenders for this list based on specific criteria. We chose to feature only one song from each artist, so artists like Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert, who have multiple songs about revenge, only made it onto the list once. While songs like "Before He Cheats," "Church Bells," "White Liar," and "Kerosene" are all excellent revenge anthems, they were ultimately overshadowed by even more popular songs.

The theme was focused enough to make the selection process even more specific. In order for a murder song to be included on the list, it needed to involve at least one male victim. This meant that songs like Ashley McBryde's "Martha Divine" were not eligible, despite being considered a standout in the genre. Other notable mentions include Willie Nelson's "Red Headed Stranger" and The SteelDrivers' "If It Hadn't Been for Love," but they also did not meet the criteria for this particular list.

The remaining selection is both impressive and sinister, showcasing the top songs in country music that center around killing a man. Take a look through the images below to find our choices for the most impactful revenge songs and hidden gems on the topic of murder – specifically, murdering the man in your life or persuading someone else to do it for you.
