Country music star Reba McEntire and her partner Rex Linn did not go easy on each other in a recent chili cookoff, despite being considered one of the cutest couples in the industry.
McEntire recently took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff, where Linn served as one of the judges. Despite their personal connection, it did not influence the judging process in any way.
McEntire actually finished in last place. As a result, she received a humorous trophy: a chili pepper going down a toilet.
McEntire demonstrated good sportsmanship by posting a video on social media of her cookoff experience where she didn't win, showing her gracefully accepting coming in last place.
The video below captures the entire event, with some additional interesting details included. Country singer Terri Clark also participated in the competition and ended up in second place.
In a recent online appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire discussed her unsuccessful experience at a chili cookoff and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what went awry.
She realized that she forgot to include the spices when making the dish. Despite this, she added chili powder and hatch green chilis, thinking it would still turn out well. She was following a recipe from Texas and was very excited about it.
Even though Linn was in last place, being McEntire's girlfriend likely made the news easier to handle when the judges announced the results.
Rex, one of the judges, approached me and quietly informed me that I did not win. I asked him if he would reveal the winner, to which he replied with an apology and the news that it was not me.
"Then he gave me the award, which turned out to be a chili pepper inside a toilet. So I ended up throwing mine away," McEntire explains.
Putting humor aside, McEntire discussed her connection with Linn and the reasons behind its success. They have been acquaintances for a long time, meeting in 1991 during the filming of the Kenny Rogers movie The Gambler Returns. However, their romantic relationship didn't blossom until they reconnected in 2020. Prior to that, McEntire was married to Narvel Blackstock, her husband of many years, and they have a son named Shelby together.
During a conversation, McEntire asked Rex why they didn't get together sooner, and he mentioned that she was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as fun and energetic, while she has become more mellow. They both feel that they have met at the perfect time in their lives.
Following that, McEntire will be traveling to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new television show that will reunite her with some of the crew from her popular series, Reba.
