Reba McEntire came in last place in a chili cookoff that was judged by Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple in country music, they don't go easy on each other when competing in cooking contests.
McEntire took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff alongside Linn, who was one of the judges. Despite their personal connection, it did not influence the judging process in her favor.
Surprisingly, McEntire finished in last place. She received a humorous trophy as a prize: a chili pepper being flushed down a toilet.
Always being a good sport, McEntire posted a video on her social media showing her participation in a cookoff where she didn't win, and even shared a moment where she gracefully accepted coming in last place.
The complete video below captures the entire event, including some additional enjoyable moments: Country singer Terri Clark participated and ended up in second place.
In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, Reba McEntire talked about her unsuccessful chili cookoff experience and acknowledged that she has a clear understanding of why it didn't go well.
"I forgot to add any spices," she confesses. "But I added chili powder and hatch green chilis thinking it would be enough. I was following a Texas recipe and was really excited about it."
Even though Linn's relationship with McEntire didn't prevent her from finishing in last place, McEntire believes that being his girlfriend may have lessened the impact when the judges announced the results.
Rex, one of the judges, approached me and quietly told me the news. He expressed his regret and mentioned that I did not win.
"Then he gave me the award, which turned out to be a chili pepper in a toilet. And so I jokingly said mine had to go to the bathroom," McEntire explains.
Putting jokes aside, McEntire also discussed her connection with Linn and what makes their relationship successful. They have been acquainted for a long time, meeting in 1991 during the filming of the Kenny Rogers movie The Gambler Returns. However, they did not develop romantic feelings until they reconnected in 2020. During this time, McEntire was married to her longtime partner Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, Reba McEntire wondered why they hadn't connected sooner. Rex pointed out that one reason could be because she was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as fun and energetic, while she has become more laid-back. She believes that they have come together at the perfect time.
Following this, McEntire will be going to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new comedy series that will reunite her with some of the individuals who were part of her popular TV show, Reba.
