The theme was focused enough to be more specific. In order for a murder song to be included in the list, it needed to have a male victim. This meant that even though Ashley McBryde's "Martha Divine" is a great modern murder song, it couldn't be part of the list. Other notable mentions include Willie Nelson's "Red Headed Stranger" and The SteelDrivers' "If It Hadn't Been for Love," but they also did not make the cut for this list.
