6 Haunting Last Performances: Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary + More
George Jones was aware that his last concert was approaching. On the other hand, Daryle Singletary was not, which added an eerie quality to the song he decided to close the night with.
Following the passing of Merle Haggard, a story circulated claiming that Toby Keith assisted him in exiting the stage with dignity during his final performance. However, this story turned out to be false as Keith was not present at Haggard's last show, nor was the individual who fabricated the narrative.
In reality, actor W. Earl Brown was not present at the event where Keith assisted Haggard in finishing. He only heard about it afterwards.
Connected: 14 Country musicians who should be given more recognition.
Taste of Country found a review of what may have been Haggard's last concert and uncovered a special moment that deserves just as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This moment is one of six memories from his final concert that are shared in the video and pictures below.
This video includes John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell performance, creating a bittersweet experience for viewers.
We really enjoy the Singletary performance. If you've heard Johnny Paycheck's "Old Violin," you'll understand the connection. If you haven't, be sure to continue watching.
