Country music star Reba McEntire came in last place in a chili cookoff that was judged by her partner, actor Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple, they didn't go easy on each other during the contest.
McEntire took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff where Linn was one of the judges, but their personal connection did not influence the judging in any way.
McEntire actually ended up in last place. As a result, she received a humorous trophy as a prize: a chili pepper going down a toilet.
Despite not winning, McEntire was a good sport and posted a video on social media of her experience at a cookoff where she didn't do well. The video included a moment where she gracefully accepted coming in last place.
The complete video below provides a detailed account of the event, with some additional interesting details included. A notable mention is that country singer Terri Clark participated and achieved second place in the competition.
In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire discussed her unsuccessful experience at a chili cookoff and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what went awry.
She realized that she forgot to include the spices while cooking. Even though she added chili powder and hatch green chilis, she thought it would still turn out well because it was a Texas recipe. She was feeling very enthusiastic about it.
Even though Linn's relationship with McEntire didn't help her avoid coming in last place, McEntire believes that being his girlfriend may have softened the blow of hearing the news from the judges.
"Rex, one of the judges, approached me and quietly told me the news. He expressed his apologies and when I asked if he would reveal the winner, he sadly informed me that it was not me."
"Then he gave me the award, which turned out to be a chili pepper in the toilet. So I ended up throwing mine away," McEntire added.
Setting humor aside, McEntire discussed her strong bond with Linn and the reasons behind its success. The pair have been acquainted for a long time, having first met in 1991 during the filming of The Gambler Returns alongside Kenny Rogers. However, it wasn't until they reconnected in 2020 that they truly hit it off. Prior to this, McEntire was married to her former husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation, McEntire asked Rex why they didn't get together sooner, to which he explained that one reason was because she had been married before. McEntire describes Rex as fun and energetic, while she has become more mellow. She believes they met at the perfect time, as he has calmed down and they complement each other well.
After that, McEntire will be going to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new comedy show that will bring her back together with some of the crew from her popular TV series, Reba.
