Earl Must Go: The Top 20 Country Songs about Taking Out Your Significant Other
Songs about murder have always been a popular theme in classic country music. While they may not be as common nowadays, there are still many great songs about men killing their female partners. On the flip side, songs about women committing murder are less common but still exist in the country music genre, and we have a list of them.
Several factors led to the exclusion of certain contenders for this list. The criteria included choosing only one song from each artist, which meant that popular country singers Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert were limited to just one song each, despite having multiple songs in their discographies that fit the theme of murder. Songs like "Before He Cheats," "Church Bells," "White Liar," and "Kerosene" are all examples of excellent revenge anthems, but they were ultimately edged out by even more well-known songs.
The theme was focused enough to make the selection process even more specific. In order for a murder song to be included on the list, it had to involve a male victim, which meant that songs like Ashley McBryde's "Martha Divine" did not qualify. Other notable mentions include Willie Nelson's "Red Headed Stranger" and The SteelDrivers' "If It Hadn't Been for Love," but unfortunately, they also did not make the final cut for this list.
The remaining songs are truly outstanding and sinister, a collection of the best songs in country music about killing a man. Take a look at our selection of the top revenge songs and lesser-known tracks about murder, particularly focusing on murdering a significant other or persuading someone else to do it. Keep reading and share in the comments if we overlooked any of your favorite songs about getting rid of your man.
