Killing your significant other is a common theme in classic country music. Although these types of songs are not as common nowadays, there are still many songs about men killing their female partners. In addition, there are also songs about women killing their partners in country music.
Certain factors eliminated some popular choices for this list. We decided to include only one song from each artist, so Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert, both known for their murder-themed songs, were limited to just one slot each. While songs like "Before He Cheats," "Church Bells," "White Liar," and "Kerosene" are excellent revenge anthems, they were ultimately overshadowed by even more popular songs.
The theme was very specific and focused on murders with male victims. This meant that even though Ashley McBryde's "Martha Divine" was a great modern murder song, it couldn't be included on the list. Other notable mentions were Willie Nelson's "Red Headed Stranger" and The SteelDrivers' "If It Hadn't Been for Love," but they also didn't meet the criteria for this list.
What remains is a comprehensive and sinister collection of the top songs in country music that revolve around killing a man. Take a look at our selection of the best revenge songs and lesser-known gems on the topic of murder, particularly murdering a male partner (or getting someone else to do it for you). Keep reading and don't forget to share in the comments if we overlooked your favorite song about getting rid of your man.
