The Last Song: Reflecting on 6 Chilling Final Concerts from Country Music Legends

  • by

There have been several memorable final concerts by musicians like Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Daryle Singletary. George Jones was aware that his performance was his last, while Daryle Singletary was unaware. However, the song he selected to close the night added an eerie touch to his performance.

Following Merle Haggard's passing, there circulated a false story claiming that Toby Keith assisted him in exiting the stage gracefully for his last show. However, this story was debunked as Keith was not present at Haggard's final performance, and the person who spread this misinformation was also not in attendance.

In reality, the actor W. Earl Brown was not present at the show where Keith assisted Haggard. He only found out about it afterwards.

Taste of Country found a review of what may have been Haggard's last concert and highlighted a touching moment that deserves just as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This moment is one of six concert memories shared in the video and pictures provided.

The video includes John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell performance, adding a bittersweet touch to the collection.

We particularly enjoy the Singletary performance. If you know Johnny Paycheck's song "Old Violin," you'll understand the connection. If you're not familiar, continue watching to find out.
