Reba McEntire comes in last place in a chili cookoff judged by Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple in country music, they don't go easy on each other in cooking competitions.
McEntire recently took part in a chili cookoff event called the Hillbilly Chili Cookoff, where Linn served as one of the judges. Despite their personal connection, it did not influence the judging process in McEntire's favor.
McEntire actually ended up finishing in last place during the competition. As a result, she was awarded a quirky trophy: a chili pepper going down a toilet.
McEntire, always a good sport, posted a video on social media of her unsuccessful cooking competition experience, which included a moment of her gracefully accepting the last place position.
The entire video below demonstrates how everything unfolded, and also includes some additional entertaining details: Terri Clark, a popular country singer, was present at the event and ended up in second place.
In a recent online appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire discussed her unsuccessful attempt at a chili cookoff and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what went awry.
She realized that she forgot to add any spices to her dish, but she tried to make up for it by adding chili powder and hatch green chilis. She was following a recipe from Texas and was really excited about how it would turn out.
Even though Linn's girlfriend status didn't help her avoid coming in last place, McEntire believes that being in a relationship probably made it a bit easier for her to handle the disappointment when the judges announced the results.
During the competition, Rex, who was a judge, approached me and quietly informed me that I had not won. He expressed his condolences before revealing that someone else had been declared the winner.
"Then he gave me the award, which turned out to be a chili pepper in the toilet. So I made a joke about it," McEntire explained.
Setting humor aside, McEntire also discussed her connection with Linn and the reasons behind its success. They have been acquainted for a long time – meeting in 1991 during the filming of The Gambler Returns starring Kenny Rogers – but their romantic relationship didn't develop until they reconnected in 2020. Previously, McEntire was married to her husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, McEntire wondered why they hadn't connected sooner. Rex mentioned that one reason could be because she was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as fun and energetic, while she has become more mellow. She believes that they have come together at the perfect time in their lives.
Following that, McEntire is going to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new comedy show that will reunite her with some of the people who helped with her popular TV show, Reba.
