Final Bow: The Chilling Last Concerts of Country Music Legends Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary + More

  • by

Here are 6 memorable last concerts by artists like Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Daryle Singletary. George Jones was aware that his concert was his last, while Daryle Singletary was not, which added to the haunting nature of the song he performed to close the night.

Following Merle Haggard's passing, a false story emerged claiming that Toby Keith had assisted him in exiting the stage gracefully. However, this story was debunked as Keith was not present at Haggard's final performance, nor was the individual who spread the misinformation.

In fact, actor W. Earl Brown was not present at the show where Keith helped Haggard finish. He only learned about it afterwards.

Taste of Country found a review of what may have been Haggard's last concert and found a heartwarming moment that deserves just as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This moment is one of six memories from the final concert, which are shared in the video above and in pictures below.

The video contains John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell, creating a bittersweet tribute to these iconic artists.

We particularly enjoy the Singletary performance. If you've heard Johnny Paycheck's "Old Violin," you can probably guess where he placed it. If you're not familiar with the song, make sure to keep watching.
