6 Chilling Final Concerts: Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary + More: A Tribute to Country Music Legends

  • by

Here are 6 memorable last concerts from artists like Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Daryle Singletary. George Jones was aware that his performance was his last, while Daryle Singletary was not, adding an eerie feeling to the song he decided to close the night with.

Following Merle Haggard's passing, a story circulated about Toby Keith assisting him in exiting the stage gracefully during his last performance. However, this tale turned out to be false as Keith was not present at Haggard's final show, nor was the individual who initially spread the misinformation.

In reality, actor W. Earl Brown was not present at the event where Keith helped Haggard. He only found out about it afterwards.

Taste of Country found a review of what turned out to be Haggard's last concert and found a touching moment that deserves just as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of six memories from his final concert shared in the video above (and in pictures below).

The video includes John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell.

We really enjoy the Singletary performance. If you know the song "Old Violin" by Johnny Paycheck, you'll recognize where he put his heart into it. If you're not familiar with the song, make sure to continue watching.
