Here are 6 memorable last concerts from legendary artists like Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Daryle Singletary. George Jones was aware that his concert would be his last, while Daryle Singletary was not. However, the song he selected to close the show added an extra layer of emotion to the evening.
Following the passing of Merle Haggard, there was a popular story circulating that Toby Keith assisted him in exiting the stage gracefully. However, this story turned out to be false as Keith was not present at Haggard's last performance. The individual who initially spread this misinformation was also not in attendance.
In fact, actor W. Earl Brown was not present at the show where Keith assisted Haggard in finishing. He had only heard about it secondhand.
Associated: 14 Country musicians who should receive more recognition.
Taste of Country found a review of what may have been Haggard's last concert and found a touching moment that deserves as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of six memories from his final concert that are shared in the video above (and in pictures below).
The video includes John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell performance, adding a bittersweet touch to the collection.
We really enjoy the Singletary performance the most. If you know the song "Old Violin" by Johnny Paycheck, you'll understand why. If you're not familiar with it, make sure to keep watching.
