George Jones was aware that his performance would be his last, while Daryle Singletary was not, which added an eerie quality to the song he decided to close the night with.
Following Merle Haggard's death, a story circulated claiming that Toby Keith assisted him in exiting the stage gracefully for his final performance. However, this story turned out to be false as Keith was not present at Haggard's last show, nor was the person who fabricated the story.
In reality, actor W. Earl Brown was not present at the show where Keith assisted Haggard. He had only heard about it from someone else.
