6 Chilling Final Concerts: A Tribute to Country Music Legends Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and More

  • by

There were six final concerts that left a lasting impact, featuring artists like Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Daryle Singletary. George Jones was aware that his last concert was approaching, while Daryle Singletary was not, adding an eerie feeling to the song he performed to close the night.

Following the passing of Merle Haggard, a story circulated about Toby Keith assisting him in exiting the stage with his dignity preserved. However, this story turned out to be false as Keith was not present at Haggard's last performance, nor was the individual who had deceived us into believing he was.

In reality, the actor W. Earl Brown was not present at the show where Keith helped Haggard finish. He had only heard about it afterwards.

Taste of Country found a review of what turned out to be Haggard's last concert and found a touching moment that deserves as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of six memories from Haggard's final concert that are shared in the video above and in pictures below.

The video includes John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' farewell appearance on television. These moments are all bittersweet and memorable.

We absolutely love the Singletary performance. If you are already acquainted with Johnny Paycheck's song "Old Violin," you will understand the significance of where he left it. If you are not familiar with the song, make sure to continue watching.
