Country music star Reba McEntire placed at the bottom in a chili cookoff that was judged by Rex Linn. Despite being considered a cute couple in the country music scene, Reba and Rex didn't go easy on each other when competing in cooking contests.
McEntire took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff where Linn served as one of the judges. Despite their personal connection, it did not influence the judging process in her favor.
McEntire actually ended up in last place in the competition. As a result, she was awarded a humorous prize: a trophy depicting a chili pepper being flushed down a toilet.
Always one to have a positive attitude, McEntire posted a video on social media of her unsuccessful cooking competition experience, which included a moment of her gracefully accepting finishing in last place.
The video below captures the entire event, including some additional interesting details. Country singer Terri Clark also participated and came in second place.
In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire talked about her unsuccessful chili cookoff experience and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what caused it to go wrong.
She realized that she forgot to add any spices to the dish she was making, but she tried to make up for it by adding chili powder and hatch green chilis. She was following a recipe from Texas and was really looking forward to the outcome.
Even though Linn's relationship with McEntire didn't improve her standing in the competition, McEntire believes that it may have softened the blow when the judges announced her last place ranking.
"Rex, one of the judges, approached me and quietly revealed the news. He expressed his regret and informed me that I was not the winner of the competition."
"Then he gave me the award, which turned out to be a chili pepper inside a toilet. It was my turn to share a funny story," McEntire added.
Putting humor aside, McEntire discussed her connection with Linn and explained why their relationship is successful. They have been acquainted for a long time, meeting in 1991 during the making of the movie The Gambler Returns alongside Kenny Rogers. However, their romantic relationship didn't start until they reconnected in 2020. Prior to this, McEntire was married to her former husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, Reba McEntire reflected on why they didn't start a relationship sooner. Rex mentioned that one reason could have been because she was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as fun and energetic, while she has become more mellow. She believes that they have come together at the perfect moment in their lives.
Following that, McEntire will be going to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new sitcom that will involve collaborating with some of the crew members from her popular TV show, Reba.
