Reba McEntire comes in last place in a chili cookoff judged by Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple in country music, they do not go easy on each other in cooking competitions.
McEntire took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff, where Linn served as one of the judges. Despite their personal connection, McEntire did not receive any special treatment during the judging.
Surprisingly, McEntire finished in last place in the competition. As a result, she received a humorous trophy: a chili pepper going down a toilet.
Always a gracious participant, McEntire posted a video on her social media showing her unsuccessful attempt at a cookoff, where she can be seen gracefully accepting her position in last place.
The video below captures the entire event, including some additional entertaining moments. One notable mention is country singer Terri Clark, who participated in the competition and placed second.
In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire discussed a past experience of failing in a chili cookoff and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what caused the failure.
"I realized that I forgot to add any spices," she confessed. "But I added chili powder and hatch green chilis in the dish, thinking it would turn out well. It was a recipe from Texas and I was really looking forward to how it would taste."
Even though Linn's relationship with McEntire didn't improve her ranking, McEntire believes that being her girlfriend may have lessened the impact when the judges announced the results.
I was informed by Rex, one of the judges, that I did not win the competition. He whispered the news to me and expressed his apologies. When I asked him who the winner was, he confirmed that it was not me.
McEntire described how he was given a trophy shaped like a chili pepper, which he humorously referred to as being in the toilet. He then joked about how his "trophy" looked like it was taking a dump
Setting jokes aside, McEntire also discussed her connection with Linn and the reasons behind its success. The pair have been acquainted for a long time – they first met in 1991 during the filming of the Kenny Rogers movie The Gambler Returns – but they didn't develop romantic feelings for each other until they reconnected in 2020. Prior to this, McEntire was married to her former husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, McEntire pondered why they hadn't connected sooner. Rex pointed out that she was previously married, which may have been a factor. Despite their differences in energy levels, with McEntire being more subdued and Rex being more lively, they believe they have come together at the perfect time.
Following this, McEntire will be traveling to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new television show that will reunite her with some of the crew from her popular series, Reba.
