Reba McEntire Places Last in Chili Cookoff Judged by Rex Linn: A Spicy Tale of Love and Competition

  • by

In a chili cookoff judged by Rex Linn, Reba McEntire ended up in last place. Despite being a cute couple in country music, Reba and Rex did not go easy on each other in the competition.

McEntire took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff where Linn was one of the judges. Despite their personal relationship, McEntire did not receive any special treatment during the judging process.

McEntire actually finished in last place in the competition. As a result, she was given a humorous trophy consisting of a chili pepper being flushed down a toilet.

McEntire, always a good sport, posted a video on social media of her unsuccessful cooking competition, showing her gracefully accepting her last place finish.

The complete video below illustrates the whole event, with some additional interesting details included. For instance, country singer Terri Clark participated and came in second place.

In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire discussed her unsuccessful attempt at a chili cookoff and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what went awry.

She forgot to add any spices to the dish, but she tried to make up for it by adding chili powder and hatch green chilis. She was following a recipe from Texas and was really excited about how it would turn out.

Despite being Linn's girlfriend, it did not prevent her from ending up in last place. However, McEntire believes that her relationship with Linn may have softened the blow when the judges announced the news.

"One of the judges, Rex, approached me and quietly informed me. He expressed his apologies and when I asked if he would reveal the winner, he responded by saying that it was not me."

"He gave me the trophy, which turned out to be a chili pepper inside a toilet. So, I made mine do the same," McEntire adds.

Setting jokes aside, McEntire also discussed her connection with Linn and the reasons behind its success. They have been acquainted for a long time, having first met in 1991 during the filming of The Gambler Returns, a movie starring Kenny Rogers. However, it wasn't until they reconnected in 2020 that their romantic relationship blossomed. During the time in between, McEntire was married to her husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.

During a conversation with Rex, McEntire pondered why they didn't connect sooner. Rex pointed out that one reason might have been because she was previously married. McEntire described Rex as fun and energetic, while she has become more mellow. She believes they have crossed paths at the perfect moment in their lives.

Following this, McEntire will be going to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. She is also working on a new comedy show that will involve collaborating with some of the same people who were involved in her popular TV series, Reba.
