Reba McEntire came in last place in a chili cookoff that was judged by Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple in country music, they didn't go easy on each other in the competition.
McEntire recently took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff, where Linn served as one of the judges. Despite their personal relationship, McEntire did not receive any special treatment during the judging process.
McEntire actually finished in last place. As a result, she received a humorous trophy as a consolation prize: a chili pepper going down a toilet.
Despite not winning, McEntire displayed good sportsmanship by posting a video on social media of her unsuccessful cookoff experience. The video even showed her graciously accepting the last place position.
The entire video below depicts the events that took place, and also includes some interesting details. Country singer Terri Clark participated and ended up in second place.
In a recent interview on CBS Mornings, Reba McEntire talked about her unsuccessful experience at a chili cookoff and mentioned that she has a good understanding of what went awry.
She realizes that she forgot to add any spices, but she still added chili powder and hatch green chilis, thinking it would make the dish perfect. She was following a recipe from Texas and was really enthusiastic about it.
Despite being in a relationship with Linn, McEntire acknowledges that it did not help her avoid being in last place. However, she believes that being in a relationship may have lessened the impact of the news delivered by the judges.
During the competition, one of the judges named Rex approached me and quietly informed me that I did not win. I asked him if he would reveal the winner, and he responded by saying that it was not me.
"Then he gave me the prize, which turned out to be a chili pepper inside a toilet. So I ended up throwing it away," McEntire elaborates.
Putting the jokes aside, McEntire also discussed her connection with Linn and the reasons behind its success. The two have been acquainted since 1991 when they met during the filming of The Gambler Returns movie with Kenny Rogers, but their romantic relationship didn't start until they reconnected in 2020. Prior to this, McEntire was married to her husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
McEntire once wondered why she and Rex didn't start their relationship sooner. Rex pointed out that one reason could be because she was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as fun and energetic, while she has become more mellow. She believes they have met at the perfect time in their lives.
Up next, McEntire will be going to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. She is also working on a new television show that will reunite her with some of the crew from her popular TV series, Reba.
