Country music star Reba McEntire recently competed in a chili cookoff and unfortunately placed last. The competition was judged by her partner, actor Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple, they didn't go easy on each other during the contest.
McEntire took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff where Linn was a judge, but their personal connection did not influence the judging process in her favor.
McEntire actually finished in last place. As a result, she was awarded a humorous trophy: a chili pepper being flushed down a toilet.
McEntire, always being a good sport, posted a video on social media of her unsuccessful attempt at a cookoff. The video included a moment where she gracefully accepted coming in last place.
The complete video below displays the entire event, along with some additional enjoyable highlights. For instance, country singer Terri Clark participated and ended up in second place.
On a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire talked about her unsuccessful chili cookoff experience and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what went awry.
She realized that she forgot to add any spices to the dish, but she tried to make up for it by adding chili powder and hatch green chilis. She was following a recipe from Texas and was really looking forward to how it would turn out.
Even though Linn's girlfriend status didn't help her avoid coming in last place, McEntire believes that being in a relationship may have softened the disappointment when the judges announced the results.
During the competition, one of the judges named Rex approached me and quietly revealed the news that I did not win. He expressed his condolences before informing me that someone else was the winner.
"Then he gave me the award, which turned out to be a chili pepper in the toilet. So I made a joke about it," McEntire explained.
Setting jokes aside, McEntire discussed her relationship with Linn and the reasons for its success. They have been acquainted for a long time, meeting in 1991 during the filming of The Gambler Returns, but their romantic connection did not develop until they reconnected in 2020. Prior to this, McEntire was married to her husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, McEntire wondered why they hadn't connected sooner. Rex pointed out that one reason may have been because McEntire was previously married. McEntire described Rex as fun and energetic, while she has become more relaxed. She believes they have crossed paths at the perfect moment in their lives.
Following this, McEntire is on her way to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. She is also working on a new comedy series that will reunite her with some of the people who previously worked on her popular show, Reba.
