Country music star Reba McEntire did not perform well in a chili cookoff judged by her partner Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple, they still compete fiercely against each other in cooking contests.
McEntire recently took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff where Linn served as one of the judges. Despite their personal connection, it did not influence the judging process in her favor.
McEntire actually finished in last place. As a result, she received a humorous trophy as a prize: a chili pepper going down a toilet.
As always a good sport, McEntire posted a video on social media of her participation in a cookoff where she didn't win, showing her gracefully accepting the last place position.
The video below captures the entire event, along with some additional entertaining moments. Country singer Terri Clark also participated in the competition and came in second place.
In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire discussed her unsuccessful attempt at a chili cookoff and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what went awry.
She realized that she forgot to add the spices to the dish she was making. Despite this, she added chili powder and hatch green chilis to give it flavor, following a Texas recipe. She was really excited about how it would turn out.
Even though Linn's relationship with McEntire didn't improve her ranking, McEntire believes that being his girlfriend may have made it easier for her to accept the disappointing news from the judges.
"Rex, who was a judge, approached me and quietly informed me. He expressed his condolences and when I asked if he would reveal the winner, he replied that unfortunately, it was not me."
"Then he gave me the award, which turned out to be a chili pepper inside a toilet. So I ended up throwing it away," McEntire adds.
Putting humor aside, McEntire discussed her connection with Linn and the reasons behind its success. They have been acquainted for a long time, having first met in 1991 during the filming of The Gambler Returns starring Kenny Rogers. However, their romantic feelings only developed when they reconnected in 2020. During this time, McEntire was married to her husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, Reba McEntire pondered why they had not connected sooner. Rex pointed out that she had been previously married, which may have been a factor. McEntire describes Rex as energetic and fun, while she has become more mellow over time. She believes that they have met each other at the perfect moment in their lives.
Following that, McEntire is going to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new comedy series that will involve reuniting with some of the crew from her popular TV show, Reba.
