Country music star Reba McEntire placed last in a chili cookoff that was judged by her partner, actor Rex Linn. Despite their adorable relationship, the couple doesn't hold back when competing against each other in cooking competitions.
McEntire recently took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff where Linn served as a judge. Despite their personal connection, McEntire did not receive any special treatment during the judging process.
McEntire actually finished in last place. As a result, she received a humorous trophy as a prize – a chili pepper being flushed down a toilet.
As always being a good sport, McEntire posted a video on social media of her not-so-successful cookoff experience, which even showed her gracefully accepting the last place position.
The entire video below depicts the events that occurred, along with some additional interesting details. One of the highlights was country star Terri Clark being present and ultimately coming in second place.
In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire discussed her unsuccessful attempt at a chili cookoff and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what caused it to go wrong.
She mentioned that she forgot to add any spices to the dish, but she added chili powder and hatch green chilies, thinking it would turn out great. She was following a recipe from Texas and was really enthusiastic about it.
Even though Linn was in last place, being her girlfriend may have helped soften the blow when the judges announced the news, according to McEntire.
When Rex, one of the judges, approached me and quietly told me the news. He expressed his apologies and then informed me that I was not the winner.
"Then he gave me the prize, which turned out to be a chili pepper inside the toilet. So, I decided to make my own contribution," McEntire explained further.
Setting jokes aside, McEntire also discussed her connection with Linn and the reasons behind its success. The pair has been acquainted for a long time, meeting in 1991 during the filming of The Gambler Returns alongside Kenny Rogers. However, they only realized their romantic feelings for each other when they reconnected in 2020. Prior to this, McEntire was married to her husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
I once asked Rex why we didn't start our relationship sooner, and he mentioned that one reason could be because I was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as a fun and energetic person, while she has become more mellow. They believe they have met at the perfect time in their lives.
Following this, McEntire will be going to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new comedy show that will bring her back together with some of the people who collaborated on her popular TV show, Reba.
