Reba McEntire came in last place in a chili cookoff that was judged by Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple, Reba and Rex didn't go easy on each other in the contest.
McEntire recently joined a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff where Linn served as a judge. Despite their personal relationship, McEntire did not receive any special treatment during the judging.
McEntire actually ended up in last place. As a result, she received a humorous trophy as a prize, which was a chili pepper being flushed down a toilet.
Despite not winning, McEntire demonstrated good sportsmanship by posting a video on social media of her unsuccessful cookoff experience. She even included a clip of herself graciously accepting the last place position.
The complete video below captures the entire event, with some additional entertaining details included. Country singer Terri Clark was present and ended up coming in second place.
In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings via video call, McEntire talked about her unsuccessful attempt at a chili cookoff and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what caused the failure.
She realized that she forgot to add any spices to the dish she was making, even though she had added chili powder and hatch green chilis. She was following a recipe from Texas and thought that would be enough to make it taste great.
Even though Linn's girlfriend status did not improve her ranking, McEntire believes that being in a relationship may have softened the blow of receiving the news about her last place position from the judges.
"Rex, who was a judge, approached me and quietly revealed the news. He expressed his regret and told me that I did not win the competition."
"Then he gave me the award, which turned out to be a chili pepper placed in the toilet. That's when I jokingly said that mine also needed to use the bathroom," McEntire added.
Putting jokes aside, McEntire talked about her connection with Linn and why it is successful. They have been acquainted for many years, meeting in 1991 during the filming of The Gambler Returns with Kenny Rogers. However, their romantic relationship didn't start until they reconnected in 2020. In the past, McEntire was married to her husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, McEntire expressed her curiosity about why they didn't meet sooner. Rex pointed out that she had been married before, which may have been a factor. McEntire describes Rex as fun and energetic, while she has become more mellow. She believes that they have crossed paths at the perfect moment in their lives.
Following that, McEntire will be traveling to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new comedy show that will bring her back together with the crew from her popular TV series, Reba.
