Walmart’s Big Plans: Expanding ‘Large’ Stores and Adding Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

  • by

Walmart is planning to expand their stores by adding more large locations and also upgrading some of their current stores.

According to CNBC, the company plans to construct or transform over 150 "large-format" stores throughout the United States within the next five years. The Associated Press stated that Walmart has not opened any new stores in the last three years.

What is the appearance of a "large-format" Walmart store like? Walmart has shared press images of its Supercenter design for these upcoming stores, but has not disclosed the specific locations where they will be built.

Walmart announced that their locations will feature the "Store of the Future" concept, which includes more displays and QR codes for customers to scan for extra product details. The company had already been renovating 650 locations to include this concept before the recent announcement.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Walmart president and CEO John Furner highlighted the significant investments made by the company in labor, supplies, and tax revenue, which ultimately benefit the communities where Walmart operates.

CNBC reported that the company chose not to disclose the prices of the stores.

The new Walmart stores will prioritize sustainability by using energy-efficient lighting and equipment in their design.

Aside from focusing on sustainability measures within its stores, Walmart is also planning to update its parking lot. The company announced intentions to install quick-charging stations for electric cars.

Walmart is planning to create a nationwide network of affordable electric vehicle fast-charging stations to make it easier for their customers and employees to own and use electric vehicles. This change is aimed at making electric vehicle ownership more convenient and accessible for everyone involved with Walmart.

According to CNBC, Walmart has over 4,600 stores in the United States and has a workforce of almost 1.6 million individuals.
