Walmart is planning to expand its presence by opening more large stores and adding electric vehicle charging stations at some of its current locations.
CNBC stated that the company plans to construct or transform over 150 large stores in the United States within the next five years. The Associated Press reported that Walmart has not opened any new stores within the last three years.
The images released by Walmart showcase the design of its Supercenter for the upcoming "large-format" stores. Walmart has not disclosed the specific cities where these stores will be located.
Walmart announced that their locations will feature the "Store of the Future" concept, which includes more displays and QR codes for customers to scan for extra product details. The company was already in the process of remodeling 650 more locations to implement this concept before the recent announcement.
According to a statement from Walmart president and CEO John Furner, the company's investments in labor, supplies, and tax revenue amount to millions of dollars and bring benefits to the local communities they serve. This statement was released on Wednesday.
CNBC reported that the company chose not to disclose the expenses associated with the stores.
Walmart has revealed plans to create new stores that prioritize sustainability. These stores will feature energy-efficient lighting and equipment.
Apart from focusing on sustainability measures indoors, Walmart is also planning to improve its parking facilities. The company intends to install fast-charging stations for electric cars in the parking area.
