  • by

Walmart is expanding their stores by adding larger locations and also installing electric vehicle charging stations. Their plan involves increasing the number of stores while also expanding some existing ones.

CNBC stated that the company plans to construct or transform over 150 large stores in the United States within the next five years. The Associated Press mentioned that Walmart has not opened any new stores in the last three years.

Walmart has shown images of its Supercenter design for the upcoming "large-format" stores, but has not announced the specific locations of these stores yet.

Walmart announced that they will be implementing their "Store of the Future" concept in certain locations, which will include more displays and QR codes for customers to scan for extra product details. Prior to this announcement, Walmart was already in the process of remodeling 650 more locations to incorporate this new concept.

According to a statement released by Walmart president and CEO John Furner, the investments made by Walmart in labor, supplies, and tax revenue amount to millions of dollars and benefit the communities in which they operate.

CNBC reported that the company chose not to disclose the expenses associated with the stores.

Walmart has revealed that their new stores will prioritize sustainability in their design. They will feature energy-efficient lighting and equipment throughout the locations.

Apart from focusing on sustainability measures indoors, Walmart is planning to make changes to its parking lot. They announced intentions to install quick-charging stations for electric cars.

Walmart is planning to create a network of affordable electric vehicle fast-charging stations across the country to make it easier for customers and employees to own and use electric vehicles. This change is aimed at increasing convenience and accessibility for those interested in electric vehicles.

According to CNBC, Walmart has over 4,600 stores in the United States and has a workforce of nearly 1.6 million employees.
