According to a report from Variety, it is rumored that Tracy Chapman may make a special appearance at the 2024 Grammy Awards to perform with Luke Combs, despite her usual avoidance of public events.
According to insiders, Variety has reported that Chapman and Luke Combs will be performing "Fast Car" together on stage. "Fast Car" is a folk-pop hit from the late 1980s that tells the story of a couple trying to break free from poverty. Combs included a cover of the song on his Gettin' Old album in 2023, which helped it reach the top of the country radio charts.
If Chapman decides to perform at the Grammys, it will be a significant and unexpected moment that will likely generate a lot of buzz. It has been reported that she has only appeared on camera three times since ending her last tour in 2009.
Combs has openly expressed his desire to perform "Fast Car" with the original songwriter and recording artist. Despite his country cover reaching No. 1 in July, his team stated that there were no current plans for a collaboration with Chapman. However, they mentioned that he would be thrilled if the opportunity to perform together ever came up.
Even though she has not been in the spotlight much since the song became popular again, Chapman has made a few statements showing her support for Combs' success with "Fast Car."
