Walmart Expanding with ‘Large-Format’ Stores and Electric Vehicle Charging Stations: A Look at the Retail Giant’s Future Plans

  • by

Walmart is planning to expand their stores and enhance current locations by adding larger stores and electric vehicle charging stations.

CNBC stated that the company plans to construct or transform over 150 "large-format" stores throughout the United States within the next five years. The Associated Press reported that Walmart has not opened any new stores in the last three years.

The design of Walmart's new "large-format" stores is shown in press images released by the company. Walmart has not yet announced the specific cities where these stores will be located.

Walmart announced that the locations will feature their new "Store of the Future" concept, which includes more displays and QR codes for customers to scan for more information about products. The company had already been remodeling 650 locations to include this concept before making the announcement on Wednesday.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Walmart president and CEO John Furner highlighted the significant financial investments made by the company in labor, supplies, and tax revenue. These investments positively impact the communities in which Walmart operates.

CNBC reported that the company chose not to disclose the price of the stores.

Walmart has revealed plans to incorporate sustainability into their new stores, with a focus on energy-efficient lighting and equipment.

Apart from focusing on sustainability initiatives within its stores, Walmart is also planning to make changes to its parking lot. The company announced its intentions to install quick-charging stations for electric cars.

Walmart is working on creating a nationwide network of affordable electric vehicle fast-charging stations in order to make owning an electric vehicle more convenient and accessible for both Walmart customers and employees.

According to CNBC, Walmart has over 4,600 stores across the United States and has a workforce of almost 1.6 million employees.
