  • by

Walmart is planning to expand by adding more stores and enhancing some of their current locations. Additionally, they will be installing electric vehicle charging stations at their stores.

According to CNBC, the company plans to either construct or transform over 150 "large-format" stores in the United States within the next five years. The Associated Press stated that Walmart has not opened any new stores in the last three years.

Walmart has released press images showcasing the design of their Supercenter for their upcoming "large-format" stores. The locations of these stores have not been announced yet.

Walmart announced that certain locations will feature their new "Store of the Future" concept, which includes more displays and QR codes for customers to scan for more information about products. Before this announcement, Walmart was already in the process of renovating 650 more locations to include this concept.

Walmart president and CEO John Furner stated in a press release that the company's investments in labor, supplies, and tax revenue amount to millions of dollars, which ultimately benefit the communities they operate in.

CNBC reported that the company chose not to disclose the price of the stores.

Walmart has revealed plans for new stores that prioritize sustainability, incorporating energy-efficient lighting and equipment throughout the locations.

Aside from focusing on sustainability initiatives indoors, Walmart is also planning to make changes to its parking lot. The company announced intentions to install rapid-charging stations for electric cars.

Walmart is in the process of creating a nationwide network of affordable electric vehicle fast-charging stations to make it easier and more accessible for their customers and employees to own an EV, according to Furner.

According to CNBC, Walmart has over 4,600 stores in the United States and a workforce of almost 1.6 million employees.
