Walmart’s Expansion Plans: Large-Format Stores and Electric Vehicle Charging Stations for Sustainability

  • by

Walmart is planning to expand its presence by opening more large stores and adding electric vehicle charging stations. They have a solid strategy in place to increase the number of their stores and enhance existing locations.

According to CNBC, the company has plans to either build new or renovate over 150 "large-format" stores in the United States over the course of the next five years. The Associated Press also noted that Walmart has not opened any new stores within the last three years.

Images released by Walmart show the design of their Supercenter for their upcoming "large-format" stores. The company has not disclosed the specific locations of these stores yet.

Walmart announced that their locations will feature the "Store of the Future" concept, which includes more displays and QR codes for customers to scan and access more product information. The company had already been renovating 650 locations to incorporate this concept before their recent announcement.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Walmart president and CEO John Furner highlighted the significant financial investments made by the company in labor, supplies, and tax revenue, which ultimately benefit the communities in which they operate.

CNBC reported that the company chose not to disclose the expenses associated with the stores.

Walmart has confirmed that their new stores will prioritize sustainability by incorporating energy-efficient lighting and equipment.

Apart from focusing on sustainability measures within its stores, Walmart is also planning to revamp its parking lot by installing fast-charging stations for electric cars.

Walmart is in the process of creating a nationwide network of affordable electric vehicle fast-charging stations in hopes of making EV ownership more convenient and accessible for both customers and employees.

Walmart, as reported by CNBC, has over 4,600 stores in the United States and has a workforce of almost 1.6 million individuals.
