Jason Isbell Rocks ‘Wanted Dead or Alive’ at Jon Bon Jovi Tribute: A Guitar-Shredding Performance to Remember

  • by

Enjoy watching Jason Isbell perform a guitar solo of "Wanted Dead or Alive" at a tribute event for Jon Bon Jovi.

Joseph Hudak attended the MusiCares tribute to Jon Bon Jovi in Los Angeles on Friday night. He noticed that Jason Isbell's appearance gave away the song he was about to perform. Isbell was wearing a large hat and a long coat, and was holding a double-neck guitar, indicating that he would be performing "Wanted Dead or Alive."

Isbell admitted on his Instagram on Saturday that it's easy to tell which Bon Jovi song he covered just by looking at a picture.

Although Isbell may have had a similar appearance to Richie Sambora rather than Jon Bon Jovi, he performed well, fully immersing himself in the lyrics about encountering countless people and captivating them all without any trace of insincerity. It is well-known that Isbell has a strong singing ability, but it was his guitar solo in his rendition of "Dead or Alive" that truly made it a nostalgic throwback to the 1980s.

Jon Bon Jovi was recognized as the MusiCares Person of the Year, joining a prestigious list of past honorees such as Joni Mitchell, Lionel Richie, Dolly Parton, and Bruce Springsteen. Despite recently losing his mother, Springsteen, another iconic figure from New Jersey, attended the event. Both musicians took the stage together to perform a mix of Bon Jovi’s country hit “Who Says You Can’t Go Home” and Springsteen’s “The Promised Land.”
