On January 19, the Grand Ole Opry held a celebration for Dolly Parton's 78th birthday at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. During the Opry Goes Dolly event, various musicians performed in tribute to the country legend. However, Dolly Parton herself was not in attendance. Unfortunately, singer-songwriter Elle King disrupted the performance by appearing on stage visibly intoxicated. At one point, she openly admitted to being drunk and even forgot the lyrics to Dolly Parton's songs during her set.

The following day, the Opry expressed regret to a concertgoer on X (previously known as Twitter) in an unofficial manner.

The official Grand Ole Opry account responded to a dissatisfied fan's tweet, expressing their regret and apology for the language that was used during the second Opry performance of the night. The fan had expressed their disappointment, claiming that Elle King's performance was ruined by her terrible, intoxicated, and vulgar behavior.

Dear Judas, we want to express our sincere regret and offer our apologies for the inappropriate language that was used during the second Opry performance last night.

Rolling Stone reached out for comment from both the Grand Ole Opry and Elle King, but their representatives have not responded yet.

Lauren Alaina, Terri Clark, Tigirlily Gold, Ashley Monroe, Dailey and Vincent, and several other artists were chosen to perform on Friday night. The performances took place at the Ryman Auditorium and were broadcast live on 650 AM WSM. This was a deviation from the usual venue, the Opry House. However, Lauren Alaina decided not to participate in the event.

After engaging in a brief exchange with some people near the stage, King addressed the audience and shared an additional piece of information. He introduced himself as Elle King and openly admitted to being heavily intoxicated. Rolling Stone was informed by a reliable source that WSM received complaints from listeners, although the specific quantity of complaints is unknown.

On TikTok, there are videos showing King's bandmates trying to salvage the performance by suggesting that she play one of her own songs instead. In response, King said that she can barely play someone else's song and that she will try to play one of her own. Just before this, she struggled through Dolly Parton's "Marry Me" and commented that she doesn't know the lyrics to songs in this town, but not to tell Dolly because it's her birthday.

King also informed fans that if they were looking for a refund, they would not be successful. Additionally, when a fan mentioned that they wouldn't want their money back, King responded by saying, "That's great, because you won't be receiving it."

The singer expressed surprise and disbelief that anyone would actually pay to attend the event. They were astonished and asked, "Wow. I can't believe it. Did you really buy tickets for this?" Part of the ticket price, specifically five dollars, was donated to the Opry Trust Fund as a tribute to Dolly Parton. This fund has been providing assistance to members of the music community in need for over 50 years.
