Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike contest for a specific reason. She is open to casting individuals who closely resemble her, regardless of which period of her career they resemble, in a Broadway production that tells the story of her life.
Yes, it is true. Parton is currently working on transforming her life story into a musical, as she disclosed to People magazine.
She expresses that performing on Broadway and debuting her own show there has always been a significant goal of hers for a long time. It is the one achievement she is determined to accomplish while she is alive and able to actively participate in it.
In doing so, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, which includes the unconventional decision to allow individuals from various backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, regardless of their previous experience in musical theater.
Parton mentions that she might even lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," where they will conduct a widespread search to find actors for three different versions of the main character. These versions include a younger Dolly, Dolly in her earlier years, and an older Dolly.
"We will be conducting auditions and using various methods to discover these individuals. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for people," Parton adds. "You never know where you might come across them. They could be individuals who have never performed on stage before, or perhaps they have been involved in community theater. Regardless, our search for them will be an exciting part of the experience, in my opinion."
Parton has previously hinted at the possibility of a musical inspired by her own life, mentioning it casually in a few interviews. She expressed her desire to see the show come to fruition by the end of 2025, as revealed in her most recent conversation with People magazine.
