Surveillance footage undermines the officer's allegations of assault in the arrest of Chris Young.
Video footage from the night of Chris Young's arrest in a bar in Nashville seems to challenge the statements made by a Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission agent. The agent had claimed that the country singer had assaulted him during the incident on Monday night.
In a set of surveillance videos that were shared on Facebook by Nick Beres, a reporter from Nashville's Newschannel 5, Young can be seen wearing a leather jacket as he approaches the undercover TABC agents. In a non-threatening manner, Young touches one of the agents on the arm. However, the agent reacts by forcefully pushing Young, causing him to fall over a bar stool at the Dawg House bar.
Young is facing charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and assaulting an officer after the incident. The video footage does not capture Young's actual arrest or whether he resisted. However, according to the arrest affidavit obtained by Rolling Stone, the agent claimed that Young "blocked" the agents from leaving Dawg House and "attempted to prevent me from leaving the bar by placing his hands on my shoulder," which the video shows to be an exaggeration.
Chris Young was taken into custody at a bar in Nashville. A video of the incident was shared on Twitter by a user named Fongduck on January 24, 2024.
Young is standing by, wanting to question the men about their reason for taking a picture of his identification. He tries to approach the agent to discuss the matter, but the agent forcefully pushes him, causing Young to fall to the ground. According to Young's attorney, his client simply wanted to verify the identity of the men, who were not easily identifiable by their attire, and inquire about the purpose of photographing his ID.
After being pushed by the agent, Young starts moving away from the conflict with his hands raised, while his companions and a few other customers gather around the agents.
Beres stated that Young's attorney informed him that the treatment his client received at the Dawg House was unjust and that he should not have been arrested. Additionally, the lawyer believes that ABC should dismiss the charges against Young and issue an apology.
According to the affidavit, Young exhibited signs of intoxication such as bloodshot and watery eyes, as well as slurred speech. He was taken into custody and later released from the Metro jail on Tuesday morning. Young's upcoming court appearance for the charges is set for February 16th.
