She expresses that being on Broadway and premiering her own show there has always been a significant goal for her. She wants to ensure that she accomplishes this goal while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.
In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to allow auditions for the role of Dolly from individuals from diverse backgrounds, rather than solely considering those with extensive experience in musical theater.
Parton mentions that she could potentially lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," which aims to discover new talents for three different versions of the main character. These versions include a young Dolly, a Dolly in her earlier years, and an older Dolly.
"We will be conducting auditions and exploring various avenues to discover talented individuals. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for the audience," Parton explains. "You never know where we might come across these individuals. They could be newcomers to the stage or have performed in small local theaters. Our search for them will definitely add an element of excitement."
Parton has previously mentioned the possibility of a musical inspired by her life on a few occasions. In a recent interview with People, the singer expressed her desire to have the show ready by the end of 2025.
