Dolly Parton is interested in hosting a contest for people who look like her. If you look like Dolly Parton, whether it's from any point in her career, she might consider casting you in a Broadway show based on her life.
Correct, Parton is currently working on transforming her life story into a musical, as she disclosed to People magazine.
For a long time, the idea of performing on Broadway and debuting my own show there has been a major goal of mine. It's the one achievement that I am determined to accomplish while I am still alive and able to actively participate in it.
In this manner, she will have the freedom to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to allow individuals from diverse backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly. This includes not only those who have extensive experience in musical theater.
Parton mentioned that she might even lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," where they will search for talented individuals to portray three different versions of the main character. These versions include a young Dolly, a Dolly from her earlier years, and an older Dolly.
"We will be holding auditions and exploring various avenues to discover them. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for people," Parton adds. "You never know where you might come across them. They could be individuals who have never performed on stage before or perhaps have only been involved in local theater productions. However, we will actively seek them out, and I believe that will add an element of excitement to the experience."
This is not the first occasion where Parton has mentioned the possibility of a musical centered around her life. She has mentioned it in various interviews before. Parton expressed her desire to have the production ready by "late '25," as she recently shared with People magazine.
The country music icon has multiple career aspirations that she is actively pursuing. In a previous interview with Taste of Country, Parton mentioned her desire to establish her own television network in the near future.
