The Grand Ole Opry has issued an apology regarding Elle King's use of inappropriate language during a Dolly Parton tribute. The singer appeared to be intoxicated during the performance.

On January 19, the Grand Ole Opry held a celebration for Dolly Parton's 78th birthday at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. However, Dolly Parton herself was not in attendance for the event called Opry Goes Dolly. Instead, other musicians performed her popular songs as a tribute. Unfortunately, singer-songwriter Elle King disrupted the performance by appearing on stage seemingly intoxicated. At one point, she confessed to being heavily drunk and even forgot the lyrics to Dolly Parton's songs during her set.
The day after, the Opry expressed a casual apology to a concertgoer through X (previously known as Twitter).
The official Grand Ole Opry account responded to a fan's tweet expressing disappointment about Elle King's performance during the second Opry show of the night. The account apologized sincerely for the language that was used during the performance and expressed regret for any negative experience the fan had.
Hello Judas, we want to express our sincere apologies for the choice of language that was used during the second Opry performance last night.
Rolling Stone reached out to the Grand Ole Opry and Elle King for comment but received no response from their representatives.
Lauren Alaina, Terri Clark, Tigirlily Gold, Ashley Monroe, Dailey and Vincent, and other artists were chosen to perform at the Friday night event. The event was broadcasted live on 650 AM WSM from the Ryman Auditorium, which was a change from the usual venue, the Opry House. However, Lauren Alaina had to cancel her appearance before the event started.
After a brief exchange with those near the stage, King addressed the audience, saying, "Let me share one more thing with you. Hello, my name is Elle King and I am extremely intoxicated." According to a reliable source, WSM received complaints from its listeners, although the exact number is undisclosed, as reported by Rolling Stone.
On TikTok, there are videos showing King's bandmates trying to salvage the performance by suggesting that she play one of her own songs instead. In response, King mentioned that she is not very familiar with playing other people's songs and would try to play one of her own. Just moments before, she struggled through Dolly Parton's "Marry Me" and jokingly expressed her lack of knowledge of the lyrics, mentioning that it was Dolly's birthday.

@jamiek721 posted a TikTok video in which Elle King is seen disrespecting the Ryman and Dolly Parton. The hashtags used in the post include Elle King, Grand Ole Opry, Nashville, country music, Dolly Parton, tribute show, country music TikToks, cancelled, Dolly fam, Dolly, and drunk.
In addition, King informed fans that if they were seeking a refund, they would not be successful. When one fan suggested that they wouldn't want their money back anyway, King responded assertively by saying, "That's good, because you won't be receiving it."
The singer also expressed astonishment that anyone would have actually paid to attend the event, questioning, "Wow. I can't believe it. Did you all really buy tickets for this?" A portion of the ticket sales, specifically five dollars, was donated to the Opry Trust Fund as a tribute to Dolly Parton. This fund has been providing assistance to members of the music community in need for over half a century.
