Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike contest for a specific reason. She is searching for individuals who closely resemble her, regardless of the era in which they resemble her, to potentially be a part of a Broadway musical that tells the story of her life.
Indeed, Parton is currently engaged in the process of transforming her life story into a musical, as she disclosed to People.
She expresses that performing on Broadway and debuting her own show there has always been a significant goal for her. It is something she has desired for a long time and is determined to accomplish while she is still active and able to be fully engaged in it.
By doing so, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to allow individuals from diverse backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, regardless of their prior experience in musical theater.
Parton suggests that she may take charge of a competition called "Finding Dolly," which aims to discover talented individuals to portray three different versions of the main character. These versions include a younger Dolly, a Dolly from earlier years, and an older Dolly, as clarified by the singer.
"We will be conducting auditions and exploring various methods to discover talented individuals. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for the audience," expresses Parton. "It's exciting to not know where we will find these individuals. They might have no prior experience on stage or could have performed in a local theater somewhere. Nevertheless, we will actively search for them, and that aspect will add to the enjoyment, I believe."
Dolly Parton has mentioned the possibility of a musical based on her life before, mentioning it in a few interviews. In her most recent conversation with People, she expressed her desire to have the show ready by "late '25".
The country music icon has a few career aspirations that she is currently pursuing. In an interview with Taste of Country last January, Parton expressed her desire to create her own television network in the near future.
