She expresses that going to Broadway and debuting her own show there has always been a significant goal for her. It is something she has been longing to achieve for a long time. She wants to ensure that she accomplishes this goal while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.
In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, including the unconventional decision to allow individuals from various backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, rather than limiting it to those with extensive musical theater backgrounds.
Parton mentions that she could potentially lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," where a wide talent search would take place to find actors for three different versions of the main character. These versions include a younger Dolly, a Dolly from earlier years, and an older Dolly. The singer elaborates on the various stages of Dolly's life that would be represented.
"We will be holding auditions and using various methods to find the individuals. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for people," Parton explains. "You can never predict where you will discover them. They could be individuals who have never performed on stage before, or perhaps they have had some experience in a local theater. The search for these talented individuals will be an exciting part of the process, I believe."
Parton has previously mentioned the possibility of a musical about her life in various interviews. She expressed her desire to see the show come to fruition by the end of 2025, as per her recent discussion with People magazine.
