Dolly Parton’s Broadway Musical: Why She’s Holding a Lookalike Contest

  • by

Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike contest for a specific reason. She is looking for individuals who closely resemble her, regardless of which period of her career they resemble, in order to potentially cast them in a Broadway musical that will depict her life.

It is true that Parton is currently working on transforming her life story into a musical, as she disclosed to People magazine.

For a long time now, achieving the goal of performing on Broadway and having my own show there has been a major aspiration of mine. It's something that I really want to accomplish while I'm still alive and able to actively participate in it.

By doing so, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to allow individuals from diverse backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, without requiring extensive experience in musical theater.

Parton suggests that she could potentially lead a competition called "Discovering Dolly," which aims to find suitable actors for three different versions of the main character. These versions include a younger Dolly, a Dolly from earlier years, and an older Dolly, as described by the singer.

"We will be conducting auditions and utilizing various methods to discover these individuals. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for people," Parton explains. "You never know where you will come across them. They might not have had any prior experience on stage, or perhaps they have performed in a small local theater. Nonetheless, we will search for them, and I believe this will add to the excitement."

Parton has previously mentioned the possibility of a musical about her life in various interviews. She expressed her desire to see the show come to fruition by "late '25," as revealed in her recent conversation with People magazine.

Dolly Parton, the renowned country singer, has multiple career aspirations that she is actively pursuing. In an interview with Taste of Country last January, Parton expressed her desire to establish her own television network in the near future.
