Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a lookalike competition for a specific reason. If you happen to closely resemble Dolly Parton, whether it be from any point in her career, she might consider selecting you for a Broadway production that revolves around her life.
It is true that Parton is currently working on transforming her life story into a musical, as she shared with People.
She expresses that going to Broadway and debuting her show there has always been a significant goal she has had for a long time. She emphasizes that it is the one goal she wants to ensure she accomplishes while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.
In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, which includes the unique decision to extend the casting process to individuals from various backgrounds, allowing anyone to audition for the role of Dolly, regardless of their previous experience in musical theater.
Parton mentions that she could potentially lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," where they would conduct a wide search for talented individuals to play three different versions of the main character. These versions include a young Dolly, a Dolly from her earlier years, and an older Dolly.
"We will be conducting auditions and exploring various avenues to discover talented individuals. I believe this process will also be entertaining for people," Parton adds. "You never know where you might stumble upon these individuals. They could be complete newcomers to the stage or perhaps have showcased their abilities in a local theater production. Our objective is to search for them, and that aspect of the journey is what I find exciting."
Parton has mentioned the possibility of a musical about her life on previous occasions. In a recent interview with People, she expressed her desire to have the show ready by the end of 2025.
