She states that going to Broadway and having her own show there has been a significant goal of hers for a long time. She wants to ensure that she accomplishes this goal while she is still alive and able to be active in the production.
In doing so, she will have the opportunity to exercise her creativity by making unconventional decisions, such as allowing individuals from different backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, regardless of their level of experience in musical theater.
Parton mentions that she could potentially lead a contest called "Finding Dolly," where they will search for three different versions of the main character. These versions include a young Dolly, a Dolly from earlier years, and an older Dolly.
"We will be conducting auditions and using various methods to discover talented individuals. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for the audience," says Parton. "You never know where these individuals may be found. They could be completely new to performing or perhaps have only been involved in small local productions. However, we will actively search for them, and this aspect will add to the excitement, in my opinion."
Parton has mentioned the concept of a musical based on her life before, occasionally bringing it up during interviews. In her most recent conversation with People, she expressed her desire to see the show produced by the end of 2025.
