Dolly Parton’s Broadway Musical: Why She Wants to Hold a Lookalike Contest

  • by

Dolly Parton is interested in hosting a lookalike contest for a specific reason. If you happen to look remarkably similar to Dolly Parton, regardless of which era of her career, there is a possibility that she might consider casting you in a Broadway musical that depicts her life.

Yes, it is true. Parton is currently working on turning her life story into a musical, as she shared with People magazine.

She expresses that one of her longstanding goals has been to perform on Broadway and have her show open there. This is something she has been determined to accomplish for a long time and she wants to ensure that she achieves it while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.

In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to allow individuals from various backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, rather than solely considering those with extensive musical theater backgrounds.

Parton mentions that she could potentially lead a contest called "Finding Dolly," where they would search for talented individuals to portray three different versions of the main character. These versions would include a young Dolly, a Dolly from her earlier years, and an older Dolly.

"We will be conducting auditions and searching for them using various methods. I believe this will also be an enjoyable experience for people," Parton adds. "You never know where you might come across them. They could be individuals who have never been on stage before, or perhaps they have performed in a small community theater. However, our search for them will be an exciting part of the process, in my opinion."

Dolly Parton has mentioned the idea of a musical based on her life before, occasionally bringing it up in interviews. In her latest conversation with People, she expressed her hope to have the show ready by "late '25."

One of the ambitions that the famous country singer is currently pursuing is to fulfill her dream of having her own television network. Parton had previously disclosed her desire to launch a television network in an interview with Taste of Country in January. She is determined to turn this dream into a reality in the near future.
