Dolly Parton’s Broadway Dream: Holding a Lookalike Contest for Her Musical Biopic

  • by

Dolly Parton is interested in holding a lookalike contest because she is searching for someone who closely resembles her, regardless of the specific era of her career. The reason behind this is that she wants to consider casting this person in a Broadway production that tells the story of her life.

Indeed, Parton is currently engaged in the process of transforming her life story into a musical, as she disclosed to People magazine.

She expresses that going to Broadway and debuting her show there has always been a significant goal for her. It is something she has been determined to accomplish for a long time. She wants to ensure that she achieves this goal while she is still alive and able to actively participate in it.

By doing so, she will have the opportunity to make innovative choices, which includes the somewhat unconventional decision to allow individuals from various backgrounds to audition for the role of Dolly, regardless of their level of experience in musical theater.

Parton suggests that she could potentially lead a competition called "Finding Dolly," which aims to discover talented individuals for three distinct versions of the main character. These versions include a younger Dolly, an earlier stage of Dolly's life, and an older Dolly. The singer elaborates on the different iterations of the title character.

"We will be holding auditions to discover talented individuals using various methods. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for the audience," says Parton. "It's unpredictable where we will find them. They might have never performed on stage before, or perhaps they have some experience in local theater. However, our search for these talents will also add to the excitement."

Parton has mentioned the idea of a musical based on her life before, and she has mentioned it in various interviews. She expressed her desire to have the show ready by "late '25" in her recent conversation with People magazine.

The country icon has a few career aspirations that she is currently striving to achieve. In an interview with Taste of Country last January, Parton expressed her desire to establish her own television network in the near future.
