Dolly Parton’s Broadway Dream: Why She’s Holding a Lookalike Contest for her Musical

  • by

Dolly Parton is interested in organizing a contest to find individuals who closely resemble her. She believes that if someone looks like her, regardless of the era of her career, they could potentially be selected to star in a Broadway musical based on her life.

Yes, it is true. Parton is currently working on transforming her life story into a musical, as she shared with People magazine.

She expresses that going to Broadway and debuting her own show there has been a significant aspiration for her for a long time. She emphasizes that making this dream come true is a top priority for her and she wants to ensure it happens while she is still alive and actively engaged in the process.

In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to extend casting opportunities to individuals from diverse backgrounds, rather than exclusively considering those with extensive musical theater background.

Parton suggests that she might take charge of a competition called "Finding Dolly," where they will conduct a wide search for talented individuals to play three different versions of the main character. These versions include a younger Dolly, a Dolly from her earlier years, and an older Dolly.

"We will be holding auditions and using various methods to discover new talents," says Parton. "I believe this process will also be enjoyable for the audience. It's exciting because you never know where we might find these individuals. They may have never performed on a stage before or may have only done local theater, but we will actively search for them, and that element of discovery will be part of the enjoyment."

Parton has previously mentioned the possibility of a musical about her life in various interviews. She expressed her desire to see the production come to life by "late '25," as she recently discussed in an interview with People.
