Dolly Parton has expressed her interest in organizing a lookalike contest for those who closely resemble her, regardless of the specific era of her career. The reason behind this contest is her intention to potentially choose a participant to be cast in a Broadway production based on her life.
Parton has shared that she is currently working on transforming her life story into a musical, according to an interview with People.
She expresses that performing on Broadway and debuting her own show there has always been a significant goal of hers for a long time. She emphasizes that it is the one goal she wants to ensure she accomplishes while she is alive and able to actively participate in it.
In this manner, she will have the opportunity to make artistic choices, such as the unconventional decision to expand the casting process for potential Dollys to individuals from various backgrounds, rather than solely considering those with extensive musical theater background.
Parton suggests that she may take charge of a competition called "Finding Dolly," where a wide-ranging talent search will be conducted to find actors for three different versions of the main character. These versions include a young Dolly, a Dolly from her earlier years, and an older Dolly.
"We will be holding auditions and searching for individuals using various methods. I believe this process will also be enjoyable for people," Parton explains. "It's exciting because you never know where you might discover talented individuals. They might have never performed on stage before, or perhaps they have been involved in local theater. Nonetheless, we will actively seek them out, and I think that aspect will add to the excitement."
Parton has previously mentioned the possibility of a musical about her life in a few interviews. In her recent conversation with People, she expressed her desire to have the show ready for production by the end of 2025.
The famous country singer has multiple career aspirations that she is currently striving to fulfill. In a previous interview with Taste of Country, Parton expressed her desire to create her own television network in the near future.
